Aaron
Reed is an inspirational self-taught young artist from Albany,
Georgia. He grew up surrounded by African American art in his
family home. He discovered his artistic talent in his senior year,
where he was a standout Basketball Player at Westover High School.
In fact, his newly discovered talent earned him a Best of Show
award with his “Morals of Life” entry in the annual
Georgia Kiwanis Club exhibition. He also won first place honors
that same year for the Design An Ad competition for the Albany
Herald Newspaper.
Aaron
has a passion for art and his work is full of feeling, inspiration,
and texture. Aaron’s artistic style
is realism. His preferred mediums are prismacolor pencils, charcoal,
chalk, and conte’. Aaron gets his inspiration from well-known
artists such as Charles Bibb, William Tolliver, Paul Goodnight,
Sidney Carter, Roderick Vines, and others.
Aaron has
had several art shows in Orlando, Florida, Atlanta, Albany & Valdosta,
Georgia including an art show where some of the proceeds went
to the Boys
& Girls Club. He was a member of the Presidents Lay Council
at Valdosta State where he gave a speech about helping young
adults succeed in life and he presented his “Morals of
Life”
piece to the president to hang in his office. |
The
College of Business also recognized him for his “Pressure”
& “Pressure II” pieces to hang in front of the
Advising Center which describes how every student feels when
it is advising time. He has also exhibited in the juried “Spring
into Air” show at the Annette Howell Turner Center for
the Arts Gallery in Valdosta, Georgia. He has also exhibited
in the internationally known juried National Black Arts Festival
2004 in Atlanta, Georgia and the Zora Neale Hurston Festival
2005 in Orlando Florida were he received a merit of awards for
his “Make Us
Whole” piece. He
was also among one of the youngest artist to ever exhibit at
the
two festivals. In 2005 Aaron was named artist of the year at Valdosta
State University and was among one of the youngest artists to ever exhibit at
the ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2005 in New Orleans as well as the NATIONAL BLACK
ARTS FESTIVAL 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia. Aaron has started his company
called Prisma Fine Arts where he wants to focus on his own distribution of artwork
so that he can later help younger artist just like himself.
While a self-taught artist, Aaron is aware that there is
much more to learn about art form and art history.
He recently graduated from Valdosta State University and moved to Atlanta, Georgia
to pursue his art career full-time. He truly
values his studies at Valdosta State University and he wants
to share his love of art with others. |
